President Jahjaga met with the Secretary General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, Mr. Iyad Madani

President of the Republic of Kosovo, Mrs. Atifete Jahjaga, met today in New York with the Secretary General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, Mr. Iyad Madani, with whom she discussed the actual developments in Kosovo and the region, international consolidation of the country and the European perspective of the western Balkan region.

President Jahjaga emphasized that Kosovo is by now stabilized as a country which promotes peace and good neighbourliness in the whole region and aims to conclude the membership process in all international organisations. She also added that international consolidation of Kosovo is of great importance, as it would help the stability not only of the country itself, but also of the whole region.

Madam President stated that Organisation of Islamic Cooperation could help Kosovo in the field of further recognitions, seeing that a certain number of its members have not as yet recognised Kosovo. The successful conclusion of the recognition of the independence of Kosovo by members of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation would be of help to the country in the international arena, particularly in its membership into UN and other international organisations.

Secretary General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, Mr. Iyad Madani, while praising the achievements of Kosovo, pointed out that OIC will continue to provide support to Kosovo in all fields. He said that OIC member states which have not as yet recognised Kosovo are reviewing the possibilities for such a step, adding that this is a rather longer process. OIC Secretary General said that this organisation has approved a resolution on Kosovo, calling upon all its members to recognise Kosovo’s independence.

President Jahjaga and OIC Secretary General also discussed other developments in the region of South-Eastern Europe and the European perspective of Kosovo and of the region.
