President of the Republic of Kosovo, Mrs. Atifete Jahjaga, laid tonight an iftar dinner for the representatives of the Islamic Community of Kosovo, lead by the Mufti Naim Tërnava. Also present at the Iftar was the EU Special Representative in Kosovo, Mr. Samuel Zbogar.
At a speech held on this occasion, President Jahjaga said:
Honourable Mufti Tërnava,
Honourable representatives of the Islamic Community,
Honourable Mr. Zbogar
Good evening and welcome at the Iftar dinner- of the month of Ramadan, which brought us all together in order to express our respect for the Muslim community in Kosovo and to at the same time celebrate the values of our society, our rich religious and cultural tradition.
In Kosovo, harmony among religions has been built through centuries and this harmony has served as a connecting bridge between people.
This iftar dinner of the holy month of Ramadan tonight, of the Islamic faith which preaches peace and understanding among people, brings us together to offer the hand of solidarity and cooperation to one another and also to reflect.
And thank you for being together tonight. In the same manner as we should be together in our everyday life, leaving aside for few moments the political differences, in order to build a place of great opportunities with a better future for everyone, regardless, a place in which mutual understanding will remove the barriers and in which the foundation fo the society is freedom, the religious one as well.
