President of the Republic of Kosovo, Mrs. Atifete Jahjaga, attended the reception organised in honour of the commencement of the proceedings of the World Economic Forum on Latin America, being held in Panama City, Panama, which was attended by senior officials of the State of Panama: President Mr. Ricardo Martinelli, Foreign Affairs Minister Mr. Alvarez De Soto, Minister of Canal Affairs of Panama, Mr. Roberto R. Roy, President of the Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Jose Luis Ford as well as dignitaries from other countries, among whom was also the Prime Minster of Trinidad and Tobago, Ms. Kamla Persad Bissessar.
President Jahjaga met with Prime Minister Kamla Persad Bissessar and discussed the issue of recognition of the independence of Kosovo by Trinidad and Tobago, which would help the further consolidation of the statehood of Kosovo, and received a promise towards a review of the circumstances on this issue.
Madam President also met with the Managing Director of the World Economic Forum, Mr. Philip Rösler, with whom she discussed the opportunities for cooperation which aim the support of Kosovo’s economic development.
President Jahjaga informed Mr. Rösler with the investment potential offered by Kosovo and with the steps undertaken by the institutions of Kosovo towards guaranteeing of the favourable conditions for entrepreneurship and attraction f foreign investment. She said that regional and global economic interdependence is making the expansion of mutual cooperation crucial in guaranteeing of the sustainable economic growth and overcoming of global crisis.
Mr. Rösler f thanked President Jahjaga for her participation at the proceedings of the World Economic Forum on Latin America and expressed the readiness for building of the bridges of cooperation which will help Kosovo’s economic development.
World Economic Forum on Latin America has begun its proceedings on Wednesday, with the participation of Presidents of Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador, as well as Foreign Affairs Ministers and Minister of Economic Development of various countries.
President Jahjaga will be meeting a number of leaders of Latin American countries during the proceedings of the Forum, including those from countries which have not as yet recognised the independence of Kosovo.
President Jahjaga is currently on an official visit to Panama, on an official invitation by the President Ricardo Martinelli, with whom she met on the first day of the visit.
She also met with the President of the Latin American Parliament and was awarded the title of the Honorary Citizen of Panama City, and was presented the Keys of the City.
