The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Madam Atifete Jahjaga, was received today at the Presidential Palace in Sofia, by the President of the Republic of Bulgaria, Mr. Rosen Plevneliev, to whom she expressed the most sincere condolences of the people and the institutions of Kosovo, for the death of the first President of democratic Bulgaria. President Jahjaga said that the death of President Zhelev is a loss not only for Bulgaria but also for the entire democratic world.
President Jahjaga and President Plevneliev discussed together about issues of the expansion of cooperation between the two countries in the fields of common interest, especially in the field of economy and investment. The two interlocutors also talked about the current developments in the region by stressing the need to deepen the regional cooperation, in order to address common challenges and the construction of stable relations in all fields that would help the integration processes.
President Jahjaga, considering the cooperation between the two countries, stressed that the assistance of Bulgaria for Kosovo in the field of European integration, including the visa liberalization process and the Stabilization and Association Agreement would be significant for the citizens of Kosovo and their European perspective.
President Plevneliev thanked President Jahjaga for the participation in the funeral ceremony of President Zhelev and for the sincere condolences. He said than the participation in this ceremony together with the other presidents in the Balkan region conveys the message that the region has changed and that it speaks with one voice on the integration processes. He said that Bulgaria will continue to be close to Kosovo to assist it in its democratic processes and in the path of Euro-Atlantic integration.
President Plevneliev stressed that he has accepted with pleasure the invitation of Presisentes Jahjaga to visit Kosovo and will do this in a few months.
