Prishtina, April 15, 2020 – The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, met today with the heads of the justice institutions to discuss about the risk of the spread of the COVID-19 virus in the institutions of the Kosovo Correctional Service and to find a legal solution to prevent the spread in these institutions.
Present at this meeting were the General Director of the Correctional Service, Nehat Thaçi, the President of the Supreme Court, Enver Peci, the President of the Court of Appeals, Hasan Shala, the President of the Basic Court in Prishtina, Aferdita Bytyçi, the Chief State Prosecutor, Aleksandër Lumezi and the Chief Prosecutor of the Basic Prosecution in Prishtina, Kujtim Munishi.
President Thaçi said that although it is good news that there are still no cases of infections with the corona virus in correctional institutions, every step should be taken to prevent this.
“The health of the citizens is in question and it is important that the institutions of the Republic of Kosovo take care of every citizen and find solutions for every citizen, in accordance with the applicable laws”, said President Thaçi.
At the meeting there was discussed about the steps to be taken by the relevant institutions and it was emphasized that in search of a solution to also include as soon as possible the Assembly of Kosovo and public health mechanisms.
