President Thaçi attended the opening of the 17th Francophonie Summit

Armenia / Yerevan, October 11th 2018 – President of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, attended today the solemn opening ceremony of the 17th Francophone Summit, in Yerevan, Armenia.

An event, which brought together  over 80 states and member governments, which share the French language and common values, and at which the upgrading of the status of the Republic of Kosovo in this organisation from observer to associate member will occur.

Among the heads of states attending this summit are also the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, Prince Albert II of Monaco, Prime Minister of Albania, Edi Rama and many other leaders of francophone countries.

Prior to the opening of the Summit, the President of the Senate of Madagascar, Rivo Rakotovao and the General Secretary of the Francophonie, Michaëlle Jean, held an address .

Organisations and partners represented at the Summit include Organisation of American States, UNESCO, Community of Portuguese Language Countries, African Union, The Arab League, Sovereign Order of Malta, International Telecommunications Union, United Nations Population Fund, World Organisation for Intellectual Property, Indian Ocean Commission, Council of Europe, United Nations, International Organisation for Migration and United Nations Environment Programme.

Upon an invitation by the President of the Republic of Armenia, Armen Sarkissian, President Thaçi will attend the concert and the presidential state dinner.
