The President of the Republic of Kosovo Vjosa Osmani Sadriu commemorated the 25th anniversary of the student protests of October 1st, 1997.
President Osmani said that 25 years ago they commenced changing history.
“Headed by rector Ejup Statovci, the students started the resistance against injustice, rejection of violence and resistance of tyranny,” said President Osmani.

25 years ago, they set out to change history. The protest of October st 1997 was an early warning for freedom.
The protesting voice of the students was a call against the discrimination of Albanians by the Serbian genocidal regime, not only in the field of education.
Led by rector Ejup Statovci, the students started the resistance against injustice, rejection of violence and resistance to tyranny.
The protest of October 1st, 1997 is the most powerful symbol of our struggle for freedom, a meaningful reference for our national cause and the brightest event in our recent history.
