President Osmani received the European Commission report on Kosovo from Ambassador Szunyog

The President of the Republic of Kosovo Vjosa Osmani received today the “European Commission Report on Kosovo” from the Head of the European Union Office in Kosovo Tomáš Szunyog.

President Osmani underlined that the Republic of Kosovo has as a priority its membership in the European Union. In this context, she stressed that nothing and no one will be able to stop the determination of the new institutions of the Republic of Kosovo for the rule of law and for the protection of the integrity of the institutions. Madam President further emphasized that within the constitutional competencies she will be the guarantor of the realization of these priorities, as the case has been so far.

During the meeting, the President asked for clarifications on the non-consultation of the institution of the Presidency in the pre-drafting phase of the report, as all other institutions, inclusive of civil society organisations, have been consulted. She potentiated the importance of the forthcoming report being comprehensive and reflecting the Presidency's contribution to the achievements during the reporting period.

President Osmani assessed that the increasing commitment of Kosovo institutions for the implementation of European reforms should be followed by discussions with EU institutions and member states in starting of the EU membership negotiations process. She stressed that the recognition of Kosovo's independence by the five EU member states is not only a just action but will serve as an impetus for the implementation of internal reforms and will contribute to peace and stability in the region.

President Osmani welcomed the reconfirmation of the European Commission's support for visa liberalization for the citizens of Kosovo as a reflection of the fulfilment of all requirements arising from the formal process of evaluation of the actions of Kosovo institutions. She stressed that visa liberalization is essential for maintaining the credibility of the EU in relation to the effective implementation of enlargement policy based on the merits and results of the engagements of candidate countries.
