The President of the Republic of Kosovo Vjosa Osmani received at a meeting the President of the Helsinki Committee for Human Rights in Serbia, Ms. Sonja Biserko, with whom she discussed developments in the region regarding human rights, democratic governance, and the establishment of good neighbourly rapport.
President Osmani underlined that the recognition of Kosovo's independence from Serbia is the only acceptable epilogue in the dialogue process led by the European Union. She also expressed the belief that the countries of the region should act together to prevent the influence of malignant actors aimed at undermining the achievements towards EU and NATO integration.
At the meeting with Mrs. Biserko, President Osmani also added that the tendency of the Belgrade regime to rewrite history undermines the efforts to open a new chapter in interstate relations. According to her, dealing with the past, justice for war victims and clarification of the fate of forcefully missing people are prerequisites for lasting peace in the region.
The parties agreed that exchanges between social groups could contribute to combating prejudice and strengthening the values of democracy and trust.
