ACTING PRESIDENT OF KOSOVO JAKUP KRASNIQI MEETS MR. EDUARD KUKAN

Strasburg, 19 January 2011 – The Acting President of the Republic of Kosovo Dr. Jakup Krasniqi, who is staying on an official visit to Strasburg in France, met today with Mr. Eduard Kukan, Head of the European Parliament Delegation for Western Balkan Relations.

The meeting discussed latest elections in our country, establishment of new institutions of Republic of Kosovo, Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly Rapporteur Dick Marty’s report, anticipated dialogue with Serbia and other issues.

During the long and friendly meeting, Mr. Krasniqi updated Mr. Kukan on latest developments in Kosovo, general elections in particular and other developments that ensued the publication of Dick Marty’s report.

Speaking of Mr. Dick Marty’s report, Mr. Krasniqi said again that the report was a recycling of an inquiry that was carried out earlier by The Hague International Tribunal in 2004 and a report that does not rely on facts. He reiterated that both Kosovo and Albania’s institutions are ready to provide all opportunities for a comprehensive enquiry in order to bring the issue to a close.

Mr. Krasniqi also requested that, in case a resolution is passed at the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly session due to be held on 25 January and to discuss the report, an investigation be envisaged and Mr. Dick Marty be required to provide EULEX with  all pieces of evidence, so that the latter can conduct an investigation.

He said Dick Marty’s report blemishes the sacred war waged by the Kosovo Liberation Army, whose main aim was to liberate the country as opposed to what Dick Marty maintains in his report.

Concerning dialogue with Serbia, the A/President of the Republic of Kosovo Dr. Jakup Krasniqi said Kosovo and its institutions have been ready to enter a dialogue with Serbia earlier as well and added that Kosovo will be ready for a dialogue with Serbia as soon as new institutions are established.

On his part, Mr. Eduard Kukan, Head of European Parliament Delegation for Western Balkan Relations, said that Dick Marty’s report has not produced an effect that someone can use to the detriment of Kosovo.

He said the report should be reviewed maturely and carefully, so as to reduce tensions.

Speaking of latest elections in our country, Mr. Kukan said Kosovo should prevent problems that occurred in this year’s elections from occurring again, as they damage Kosovo’s image in the international arena.

He also said reforms in the election system will be necessary for future elections.

At the same time, Mr. Kukan reasserted that establishment of new institutions of Kosovo as soon as possible will be beneficial to Kosovo and its European perspective.
