The Acting President of the Republic of Kosovo, Albulena Haxhiu, received today the Kosovo mathematics team, following their participation at the European Mathematical Olympiad, EMO 2026.
The team was led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Valdete Rexhebeqaj-Hamiti, President of the Association of Mathematicians of Kosovo, while Kosovo was represented by pupils Ajan Hajrullahu, Lyron Celina, Vesa Xhymshiti, Ari Juniku, Shpendi Deva and Lekë Nikçi.
At this competition, Ajan Hajrullahu won the bronze medal, while Lyron Celina and Vesa Xhymshiti received honorary appreciations.
President Haxhiu congratulated the pupils on their achievement and on representing Kosovo in an important international mathematics competition.
“Participating in competitions of this level is a success in itself. When we add to this the results achieved, Ajan’s bronze medal and the honorary appreciations for Lyron and Vesa, then this success takes on even greater meaning. It speaks of the dedication, discipline and potential of our young people in mathematics. Their success is also a success of the Republic of Kosovo”, said Acting President Haxhiu. On this occasion, she expressed her gratitude to the six pupil representatives of Kosovo and to the Association of Mathematicians of Kosovo.
The challenges faced by the Association of Mathematicians of Kosovo in preparing pupils for international competitions were also discussed at the meeting. Acting President Haxhiu expressed the readiness of the Presidency to assist, either directly or by serving as a bridge with the relevant institutions.
The fact that in 2027 Kosovo will be the organizer of the European Mathematics Olympiad, where Prishtina will welcome talented young people from different countries of Europe was also potentiated at the meeting.
Acting President Haxhiu emphasized that support for talented pupils is an investment in knowledge, science and the future of Kosovo.
