The Acting President of the Republic of Kosovo, Albulena Haxhiu, sent a telegram of condolences to the Kryeziu family on the passing of Prof. Dr. Eqrem Kryeziu.
“With his passing, Kosovo lost a prominent intellectual and activist of a generation whose engagements for the country were built on knowledge and responsibility,” reads the telegram sent by Acting President Haxhiu.
She emphasized that Eqrem Kryeziu was first and foremost a professor and a man of letters, and that for more than five decades his life was connected to books, education, and knowledge.
“Even in politics, he remained a man with his own opinion, direct in his speech, with subtle irony, and with a special way of expression, for which the public recognized and remembered him,” said the Acting President.
According to her, the name of Eqrem Kryeziu remains particularly linked to Prizren, where for many years he was part of the political life of the city and which he led as mayor in the first years of local government after the war.
“His contribution continued in the Kosovo Assembly and in the political life of the country, but the figure of Eqrem Kryeziu is not summarized in the functions he held. He will be remembered as a distinguished professor, intellectual and activist with a prominent individuality, who left his mark on the political and cultural life of Kosovo”, states the telegram.
Acting President Haxhiu expressed her most sincere condolences to the Kryeziu family, friends, colleagues, collaborators, citizens of Prizren and all those who knew and appreciated Prof. Dr. Eqrem Kryeziu.
“May the memory of Prof. Dr. Eqrem Kryeziu be eternal”, wrote Acting President Haxhiu.
