Statement of the President of the Republic of Kosovo

The chaotic and violent scenes in the streets of Prishtina, are totally unacceptable. I urge for calmness and restoration of order in the streets and squares of the capital as well as for reflection. I call on the protesters remaining on the streets of the city of Prishtina to distribute peacefully and not to continue to clash with the Kosovo Police, an institution responsible for the preservation of law and order and the security of each citizen of the country. It is our Police.

The political leaders of all parties in the country, including the position and the opposition, to resume the dialogue among themselves and to find a common language for the solution of the open issues, interrupting this cycle of violence in the streets. I also request from the country’s political leaders from the entire political spectrum, to distance themselves from acts of violence which are severely damaging our new country.
I consider the violence against the Kosovo Police and the damaging of public and private property by the protesters in today’s protests unacceptable.

Protest is an inalienable right and it is guaranteed by the Constitution of the country, but this right comes with responsibility and today’s violence in the squares of Prishtina severely disrupts the law and order and seriously threatens the security of the citizens.

Institutional solutions and the language of dialogue are the best way to overcome the created situations and we must act together in the prevention of any further escalation of the situation.
