The Acting President of the Republic of Kosovo, Albulena Haxhiu, has forwarded a letter to the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, and to the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, and at the same time Vice-President of the European Commission, Kaja Kallas, inviting the European Union to send an Election Observation Mission for the early elections for the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo, scheduled for June 7th 2026.
In her letter, Acting President Haxhiu emphasized that, in accordance with her constitutional responsibilities, she has reached a decision scheduling the date of the early elections. Given the importance of this process, she has invited the European Union, through an independent Election Observation Mission, to monitor and assess the conduct of the elections.
Acting President Haxhiu pointed out that the presence of the EU Election Observation Mission would contribute to the transparency, credibility and integrity of the electoral process, in line with the Republic of Kosovo’s continued commitment to democratic standards and free elections.
The Republic of Kosovo has consistently valued the role of the European Union in supporting democratic institutions and advancing electoral standards. The invitation to send the Election Observation Mission is a continuation of this institutional practice and an expression of Kosovo’s commitment to an open, transparent and credible electoral process.
