President Osmani received in a meeting the EU Special Representative for the Kosovo-Serbia Dialogue, Peter Sørensen

The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, received in a meeting the European Union’s Special Representative for the Kosovo-Serbia Dialogue, Peter Sørensen, during which they discussed the latest political developments in Kosovo, the electoral processes, the security situation, relations with the European Union, and the future of the dialogue with Serbia.

In the meeting, President Osmani underlined that the dialogue process must be centered on mutual recognition and that its success depends on the equal treatment of the parties. She further pointed out that Serbia has repeatedly violated the Brussels Agreement and the Ohrid Annex by infringing Kosovo’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, carrying out acts of aggression, and opposing Kosovo’s membership in international organizations.

President Osmani stated that this process must be guided by clear objectives and deliver measurable results within the framework of European integration, underlining that the selective interpretation of agreements undermines the process.

President Osmani further briefed Mr. Sørensen on the successful, democratic and inclusive conduct of parliamentary and local elections in Kosovo, noting that they demonstrated the state’s democratic maturity and the proper functioning of its institutions in full compliance with European standards.

Relations between Kosovo and the European Union were also discussed at the meeting. President Osmani welcomed the December decision to fully lift the measures against Kosovo, announced at the EU-Western Balkans Summit, describing it as an important step towards restoring a full and equal partnership between Kosovo and the EU.

Addressing Kosovo’s European perspective, President Osmani emphasized that the granting of EU candidate status is a strategic necessity, not only for Kosovo but also for regional stability and the credibility of the European Union itself. President Osmani highlighted Kosovo’s full alignment with the EU’s common foreign and security policy, its proven democratic record of accomplishment, and the strong momentum of reforms in the country. The President stressed that she will continue to work with EU Member States and EU institutions to advance Kosovo’s candidate status without any further delays.
