The President of the Republic of Kosovo Vjosa Osmani received a delegation of the EU Working Part on the Western Balkans.
At the meeting with the delegation, President Osmani discussed the latest developments in the country and the dialogue process with Serbia.
President Osmani also emphasized at the meeting with the diplomats of the EU Working Party on the Western Balkans Kosovo’s progress in the field of the rule of law, the fight against corruption and organized crime, transparency, good governance and, in particular, respect for human rights.
President Osmani said that Kosovo applied for the status of a candidate country in the EU in December 2022 and that it is committed to fulfilling the obligations and membership criteria.
“Kosovo is fully aligned with the EU’s foreign and security policy. Consequently, there should be a move forward with the status of a candidate country”, President Osmani emphasized.
Furthermore, President Osmani said that Kosovo has incorporated the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and other international human rights instruments into its Constitution, ensuring the rights of communities, the rule of law and democratic governance, as certified by reliable international organizations.
President Osmani, in front of the diplomats, also spoke about the commitment and dedication to the advancement of the agenda for women, peace and security, as well as holding the second edition of the WPS Forum, which has transformed Kosovo into a regional leader in fulfillment of this agenda.
Following Kosovo’s aspirations for sustainable economic growth and development, President Osmani also spoke about economic growth, direct investments, as well as the potential and successes of Kosovar youth in many fields in international presentations.
Speaking about the Council of Europe membership process, President Osmani emphasized the importance of membership in this organization to increase the effectiveness of the protection of the rights of all our citizens without distinction, by giving them access to the human rights mechanisms.
President Osmani emphasized that Kosovo needs further support from the respective states during the final phase as well, in the vote that may be held in May, in the Committee of Ministers.
