President Vjosa Osmani received today the Head of the EU Office in Kosovo, Mr. Thomas Szunyog, to whom she expressed gratitude after the recent EU decision to distribute a quantity of vaccines to the citizens of the Republic of Kosovo.
“The provision of the vaccines is the main priority for the country’s institutions, so we are very grateful for the provision of 95,000 vaccines by the EU for our citizens. It is very important to understand seriously and to clearly communicate the serious situation with the pandemic in our country, so that this is reflected in the defining criteria for the distribution of vaccines through initiatives such as the one of the EU and that of COVAX”, emphasized President Osmani.
At the meeting, President Osmani spoke about the program priorities during her mandate, with special emphasis on foreign policy, security, rule of law, in which case she emphasized that she fully supports the vetting process, considering it as a precondition for the rule of law and democracy in country.
Mrs. Osmani said that there will be worked in a parallel manner in order to achieve development objectives in line with the European Green Agenda for the Western Balkans.
At the meeting, President Osmani stressed that she expects close cooperation with the EU Office and support from European allies on visa liberalization for the citizens of Kosovo, guaranteeing the commitment of the institutions in the country for the full implementation of the Stabilization and Association Agreement. In this context, President Osmani said that the EU must also meet the obligations arising from this contractual relationship.
The parties also discussed about the need for reform of the electoral system in the country, preparations for local elections, as they agreed to continue cooperation and close coordination towards the advancement of the Republic of Kosovo on the path of European integration.
