The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Justina Shiroka Pula, today visited the families of Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Rexhep Selimi and Jakup Krasniqi, former leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA), who are facing judicial proceedings before the Kosovo Specialist Chambers in the Hague.
During the visits, the President expressed her solidarity with the families, noting that this is a difficult period for them and for the Republic of Kosovo.
President Shiroka Pula reiterated that the right to appeal is part of the judicial process and that the Republic of Kosovo will continue to support the former KLA leaders at this stage, in accordance with its institutional responsibilities and capacities.
According to President Shiroka Pula, the Kosovo Liberation Army’s war was a war for freedom, waged in the face of oppression, violence and crimes committed by the Serbian regime against the people of Kosovo. She stressed that preserving the historical truth and the dignity of all those who contributed to the country’s freedom remains important.
At the meetings, the President informed the families that she would take action concerning the Law on the Specialist Chambers within the statutory deadlines.
“The families are not alone on this journey. The Presidency of the Republic of Kosovo will remain open to them and will act within its constitutional and legal competencies in support of efforts to achieve justice”, President Shiroka Pula emphasised.
