President Vjosa Osmani: On the doorstep of their home, where life and safety should have reigned, members of the Berisha family from Suhareka faced the barbarity of Serbia’s genocidal regime

On the doorstep of their home, where life and safety should have reigned, members of the Berisha family from Suhareka faced the barbarity of Serbia’s genocidal regime. 49 members of this family, of whom 19 victims were under the age of 18, were brutally massacred, while their bodies were moved elsewhere and disappeared, in an attempt to hide the crime and erase traces of the truth.

Fate willed that three of them, Vjollca with her son Gramoz and Shyhrete, escaped. They remained not only witnesses to a serious crime, but also the voice of an unfading memory.

This story is not only painful, but also calls for justice. It is a memory that must not be allowed to fade, because crimes that are forgotten risk being repeated. The memory of crimes like this is the foundation of truth and the demand for justice.

May the memory of the martyrs be eternal!
