As part of her official visit to Washington, D.C., and in marking the 18th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Kosovo and the United States of America, the President of the Republic of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, was received at the Department of State by the US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio.
In an excellent and cordial meeting, President Osmani expressed her deep gratitude for the invitation, which the President of the United States of America, Donald Trump, extended to Kosovo to be a co-founding state of the Board of Peace and part of the inaugural meeting. She also expressed her gratitude for the strong guarantees that President Trump gave her yesterday for peace in our region and, on this occasion, thanked Secretary Rubio for his leadership and cooperation in this process.
The strategic partnership issues, ranging from regional security and diplomacy to the economy and defense, were discussed at the meeting. Madam President emphasized several processes of vital importance for regional stability: strengthening the Kosovo-US strategic partnership, Kosovo’s membership in NATO, the strategic importance of the US military presence in Kosovo, and the opening of new chapters in economic and defense cooperation.
Madam President thanked Secretary Rubio for the strong USsupport for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Kosovo. In this spirit, Madam President emphasized the historic role of the United States of America in the liberation, state-building, and consolidation of peace in Kosovo, as well as the special importance of the military presence of the US and of its allies within the framework of the NATO mission, as a key factor for stability and security in the region.
In this spirit, she underlined that the natural path for this strategic partnership is Kosovo’s membership in NATO, a process necessary to ensure long-term peace in our region.
Madam President also emphasized the importance of advancing the Kosovo–US bilateral strategic dialogue as a mechanism for coordinating common priorities and opening new chapters of cooperation in various fields.
Furthermore, she stated that the partnership between Kosovo and the United States of America constitutes a vital national interest and is existential to the Republic of Kosovo, highlighting the strategic priorities for the expansion of bilateral cooperation in the fields of defense and economic development.
