President of the Republic of Kosovo, Mrs. Atifete Jahjaga, during the proceedings of the International Women’s Summit “Women in the World”, met with the former US President, Mr. Jimmy Carter.<\/p>\n
As part of the proceedings of the International Women’s Summit, being held in New York, USA, President Jahjaga took part at the panel organised on the topic if “Women Peacemakers”, where she spoke on the role of women in Kosovo in various time periods. US Ambassador Ms. Melanne Verveer was also a panel member.<\/p>\n
In her address, President Jahjaga emphasized the exceptional role which Kosovar women have played during the war period, during the 1998-1999 periods, stating that women were the greatest victims, because apart from losses of life within their families, they also had to care for their children and themselves, and also undertake the role of the ahead’s of families.<\/p>\n
“In villages and cities all around Kosovo, women helped the society move forward. They became the pillars of the new state, which we build from ruins. They were strong, as well as uncompromised in building of a better future for their children”, said President Jahjaga.<\/p>\n
Speaking about the role of women in Kosovo during the process of the rebuilding of the country and regaining of the trust, president Jahjaga stated that women managed to bring the pragmatism and care to the table. She added that role of the women is crucial as they do not leave the negotiating table without finding a solution.<\/p>\n
“They look for and find consensus. Their presence at the table brings forward more balanced policies which address the needs of the whole society. This guarantees a greater all inclusive attitude and also, I believe, a more successful and more efficient policy making”, said the President of the Republic of Kosovo, Mrs. Atifete Jahjaga.<\/p>\n
Madam President also spoke about her engagements with the Kosovo Police, a security force built upon democratic standards which offers security to all the citizens, and also a force which has managed to establish the trust with the citizens.

\n“Largest part of these achievements has been made possible through the recruitment of female police officers- a role quite untraditional for women of Kosovo- which has helped society see the police force as a protector of their rights and freedoms, a non threatening force to their identity and wellbeing” said Madam President. <\/p>\n
She also said that as the President of the country, she has attempted to bring together all parties to a dialogue, in mutual understanding.<\/p>\n
“I potentiate our common concerns to show that regardless of ethnic or religious background, we share the same hopes and same anxieties for the future.
