President of the Republic of Kosovo, Mrs. Atifete Jahjaga, visited today the municipality of Podujeva, as part of the visits throughout the municipalities of Kosovo and meetings with citizens which aim to prevent illegal migration and to pass on a message that leaving the country is not a solution to any problem.<\/p>\n
President Jahjaga was initially received at a meeting by the Mayor of Podujeva, Mr. Agim Veliu, who informed Madam President with the general situation in this municipality, which is considerably affected by the illegal migration of its citizens.<\/p>\n
Mr. Veliu stated that a lowering of the number of citizens leaving the country has been observed during the last week, which can also be confirmed by the lower number of requests for issuing of documents needed by those who migrate in an illegal manner. He also added that a process of return has also been observed, as those who have left are by now returning home to their families.<\/p>\n
After the meeting with the Mayor, President Jahjaga, accompanied by the Mayor, meet with residents of this town. Madam President heard what the worries and problems of all natures are troubling the residents and promised that institutions of the country, both at local and central level, will undertake all measures to change for the better the current situation, in favour of\u00a0 development and wellbeing of citizens.<\/p>\n
President Jahjaga stated at every single meeting with citizens that the path of exodus, of leaving the country, is not a solution to the problems. She added that she understands the problems faced by the citizens, but the road to state building is not an easy one, on the contrary, it’s a difficult one, which requires the engagement of all institution’s and of all of the citizens. <\/p>\n
At a statement issued after the meetings, President Jahjaga said: “I came to Podujeva municipality to hear the problems and troubles of the citizens, to hear the reasons for migration, which is happening lately. The migration journey is not an easy one, it’s an unsafe trip without any guarantees, particularly now that we hear in the statements of the EU countries, that they will commence with the return of our citizens. During the talks with residents of Podujeva, I asked them to appeal to all their family members not to abandon Kosovo, to not fall prey of criminal groups, because their future is in Kosovo, to, jointly with institutions of Kosovo and the contribution of each citizen of our country, continue the state building process of our motherland and to move together towards the integrative processes.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
