Toronto, September 14, 2016 – The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Tha\u00e7i, was today a panelist at the 10th jubilee edition of the International Economic Forum “Toronto Global Forum”, which is being held under the auspices of the International Economic Forum of the Americas (IEFA).<\/p>\n
At the Forum entitled “Leading in uncertain times”, in front of over 100 speakers and 2600 delegates from over 40 countries, President Tha\u00e7i said that the case of Kosovo is very specific because the development of the middle class has been associated with numerous challenges.

\nThe Head of State spoke about the difficult journey and the unfavorable circumstances through which has Kosovo passed since the pre-war period, the reconstruction period, the major challenges in the process of state-building, as well as the difficulties in economic development, especially in the early years of the independence which coincided with the biggest crises in the world.
\n\u00a0
\nPresident Tha\u00e7i said that despite the challenges, Kosovo managed to overcome all these numerous problems and marked the fastest economic growth in the Balkan region, at the rate of 4 per cent of the average growth of the Gross Domestic Product.<\/p>\n
He had said that it is vital to invest in security to provide investment.\u00a0

\n“After the war, our first strategy of political economy was to invest in security to ensure investments. While we had oriented most of the energies and resources on reconstruction and the security sector, we also focused on the reforms of market economy by privatizing social enterprises, on fiscal reforms by lowering taxes and removing them for the poor categories. Also, we focused on educational reforms, with the creation of conditions for free tuition and free books, on the health reform and on the increase of salaries for the whole public sector”, said President Tha\u00e7i. <\/p>\n
At the same time, with these reforms, President Tha\u00e7i said that to alleviate social differences and to alleviate unemployment investments have been increased also in the improvement of the infrastructure and the welfare of the residents of rural areas.

\n“Kosovo has become a leader in the field of reforms and now we have managed to sign the Stabilization and Association Agreement with the EU”, said President Tha\u00e7i, inviting the present investors to come and invest in Kosovo.

\nHe stressed that Kosovo has had a severe period of transition, but since 2008 major steps have been marked in the development of the middle class.
