Merdare, 16 February 2017 – The President of Kosovo, Hashim Tha\u00e7i, together with the Prime Minister Mustafa, Minister Tahiri and the Head of the EU Office in Kosovo, Nataliya Apostolova, today laid the cornerstone of a new border crossing point between Kosovo and Serbia in Merdare.<\/p>\n
President Tha\u00e7i stated that this crossing point is only one of six permanent border crossing points of the Integrated Border Management, which will be built within a wider project between Kosovo and Serbia.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis way, we are not only fulfilling the European standards, but we are also narrowing the space for the informal economy phenomena\u201d, stated president Tha\u00e7i.<\/p>\n
President Tha\u00e7i said that throughout the years, Kosovo has always been committed to dialogue, good neighbourly relations, cooperation in the service of citizens, in the service of development and peace in the region.<\/p>\n
\u201cKosovo institutions have been and remain committed to facilitating the movement of people and goods, not only in Kosovo, but also with neighbouring countries, as in this case with Serbia\u201d, he said.<\/p>\n
Laying down of this cornerstone in Merdare, for construction of the crossing point between Kosovo and Serbia, president Tha\u00e7i said that this is another proof of the proper path that we have followed through the dialogue.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe followed the path of cooperation and dialogue for the benefit of citizens, the path of building new bridges and crossing points\u201d, said president Tha\u00e7i.<\/p>\n
He said that Kosovo has always respected the freedom of movement of people, vehicles and goods.<\/p>\n
To this end, Mr. Tha\u00e7i emphasised that agreements have been reached to allow crossing of the border only with ID cards, for all citizens of the region to move without obstacles.<\/p>\n
\u201cThese new crossing channels for our citizens, Albanians and Serbs, but also our compatriots, are being established thanks to the agreements in the dialogue in Brussels\u201d, stated president Tha\u00e7i.<\/p>\n
The head of state thanked the European Union Office in Kosovo for financial support and UNOPS as the EU implementing partner, as well as the Minister for Dialogue, Edita Tahiri, for the work done.<\/p>\n
President Tha\u00e7i said that with dialogue and cooperation, we are strengthening more and more our identity, sovereignty, but also the state subjectivity.<\/p>\n
