Prishtina, August 23, 2017- The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Tha\u00e7i, attended today the conference organized by the Resource Center for Missing Persons.<\/p>\n
On this occasion, President Tha\u00e7i said that it is painful and unacceptable, that for all these years since the end of the war the fate of all victims has not yet been revealed.
\n\u00a0
\n\u201cThe issue of the missing is a humanitarian issue, and politics, whether domestic or international, should stay away from this topic\u201d, said President Tha\u00e7i.
\n\u00a0
\nHe further said that as the protagonist of the political developments in the country but also in the dialogue process between Kosovo and Serbia, he remains committed that the issue of missing persons to be addressed and concluded urgently.

\n\u201cI have promised in front of you, Mr. \u00c7erkini and Mr. Trifunovic, and I repeat today as well, that I will personally be committed even more strongly to clear up the fate of all the missing people in Kosovo and to close this painful chapter for us all\u201d, affirmed Tha\u00e7i.

\nPresident Tha\u00e7i, among other things, said that the cooperation you have with each other, overcoming divisions along ethnic lines, the sense that we have the same desires, are an example for us all. \u201cWitnessing your example, I have been convinced for the need to initiate the establishment of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission in Kosovo. This mechanism will help to accomplish the rights of victims, but also for all citizens to know what has happened to them and to your loved ones\u201d, he added.

\nAccording to him, the victims, as well as the whole society, are in need for the right to justice to be fulfilled. \u201cThat\u2019s why I have requested from the justice authorities in Kosovo, now that they have been given the powers to investigate war crimes, to give priority to the prosecution of war crimes\u201d, continued Tha\u00e7i.

\nHe further said to be also aware of the challenge of identifying mortal remains.
\n\u00a0
\n\u201cThe pain of the families who expect to learn about the fate of their loved ones about whom they do not know about two decades is understandable. The pain of those who have nevertheless taken a closure to the fate of their family members is also understandable\u201d, stressed the President.

\nPresident Tha\u00e7i said that we all share this pain, as if we share the commitment to identify all victims, all the remains found, but this issue requires maturity, patience and compassion from all of us.

\n\u201cThe Kosovo institutions will continue to support every initiative, every family that faces pain\u201d, Tha\u00e7i continued, adding that they will help to close every case.

\n\u201cThis is why we support every initiative of yours, whether at state level or at regional level, to help clear up the fate of the missing\u201d, he added.

\nAt the end, President Tha\u00e7i thanked the organizers for organizing this conference, and said that I once again guarantee my full support for your efforts, expressing gratitude to other organizations that are committed to clear up the fate of the missing persons, such as: the Government Commission for the Missing, the Institute of Forensic Medicine, the International Committee of the Red Cross, the International Commission on Missing Persons, civil society, the media.
