The President of the Republic of Kosovo Dr. Vjosa Osmani, on President's Day, accompanied by former presidents Fatmir Sejdiu, Atifete Jahjaga and Behgjet Pacolli, laid flower wreaths at the statue of the historic President Dr. Ibrahim Rugova.<\/p>\n
President Osmani said that she is honoured that together with the former presidents, she starts the s day by honouring the architect of our state, the man who brought together the people of Kosovo in order to clearly articulate our will for freedom and for the independence of our country. “May 24th is an important day as three decades ago the citizens of Kosovo showed en masse what their will was, showed that there is nothing that could stop them on their right path to statehood and independence. Hence, taking into account that these were the first ever elections in which Kosovo Albanians participated so massively and formed their institutions arising from free will, President Rugova declared May 24th President's\u00a0 Day “, said President Osmani. According to the President, this day reminds us not only of history, but also of present times and the importance of such an institution in representing the unity of the people.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
“As the President of the country, it is important to me to commemorate this day, especially the architect of our state and to commemorate together with the leaders of this institution during different stages of our history,” said the President.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Afterwards, President Osmani visited the family of the historic President, Dr. Ibrahim Rugova. She thanked the family for the great contribution of the architect of Kosovo's independence, while handing over to Mrs. Fane Rugova a copy of the decision to establish the Presidential Library, which will be named after Ibrahim Rugova.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Following the activities in honour of President's Day, President Osmani, accompanied by three former presidents, Sejdiu, Jahjaga and Pacolli, visited the “Kosovo Independence House Dr. Ibrahim Rugova\u201d Museum. According to her, this house is dedicated to the epochal efforts, which culminated with the proclamation of the independent state of the Republic of Kosovo.\u00a0<\/p>\n
“These efforts led by the historic President Dr. “Ibrahim Rugova, which took place at this small house, but which had an extremely big impact”, said President Osmani. Further, she recalled a part of the history of this shrine.\u00a0<\/p>\n
“Together with the three presidents, we saw the great damage that Serbian forces had done to this house, by burning it down in 1999, there was only one photo of President Rugova left inside, but thanks to his friends and associates within and outside Kosovo, many photographs and memories are preserved, which also testify to the extraordinary work\u00a0 which has taken place inside this house, building the first foundations of our independent state, but also sending to the whole world the powerful message of ” engagements and the just struggle of the people of Kosovo for freedom”, said President Osmani.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
