The President of the Republic of Kosovo Vjosa Osmani received Mr. Bertrand Bouyx, chairman of the Committee on Political Affairs and Democracy in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, simultaneously a member of the National Assembly of France.<\/p>\n
Kosovo’s membership in the Council of Europe was discussed at the meeting, with Madam President thanking Mr. Bouyx for his leadership and support provided to Kosovo at the Committee on Political Affairs and Democracy, which overwhelmingly voted in favour to advance Kosovo’s membership for a vote in the Parliamentary Assembly.<\/p>\n
President Osmani emphasized that Kosovo’s membership in the Council of Europe would be an important step for the further strengthening and advancement of human rights through the mechanisms offered by the Council, which would also serve as an additional mechanism for the protection and guarantee of rights of all citizens of Kosovo. In this spirit, President Osmani added that access to the institutions and mechanisms of the Council of Europe, such as the European Court of Human Rights, is above all in the interest of the citizens of Kosovo, without distinction.<\/p>\n
President Osmani also expressed her gratitude and reiterated the importance of France’s continuous support in this direction, stating her confidence that Kosovo’s membership in the Council of Europe will be positively evaluated by the representatives of the member states at the Parliamentary Assembly.<\/p>\n
