Dr. Vjosa Osmani-Sadriu is the sixth President of the Republic of Kosovo.<\/p>\n

President Osmani was elected on April 4, 2021, having previously served as Speaker of the Assembly and having been elected as a Member of the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo for five consecutive terms. She graduated from the Faculty of Law of the University of Prishtina and completed her Master\u2019s studies as well as her Doctorate in the field of International Law at the University of Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania, United States. <\/p>\n

The President of the Republic of Kosovo is also the Supreme Commander of the Kosovo Security Force and leads the country\u2019s foreign policy, in accordance with the Constitution of Kosovo. As a steadfast advocate for an impartial and professional justice system, President Osmani has strongly supported comprehensive rule of law reforms in Kosovo. As President, Vjosa Osmani has consistently championed women\u2019s rights, particularly their participation in peace, security, and economic processes, as well as their political empowerment. She is committed to raising awareness and support for children with special needs, as well as to empowering marginalized groups in Kosovo. <\/p>\n

In addition, empowering young people in various fields, from information technology to political decision-making, has been an important part of the President\u2019s work.<\/p>\n

In the February 2021 elections, she achieved a historic level of popular support, which subsequently led to her election in Parliament as the sixth President of the Republic of Kosovo. Prior to this, Vjosa Osmani was the first woman to serve as Speaker of the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo, having been elected to this post on February 3, 2020. She also served as Acting President of the Republic of Kosovo during the period November 2020 \u2013 March 2021. In her previous mandates as a Member of Parliament, she chaired the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs, the Committee on European Integration, and served as Vice Chair of the Committee on Constitutional Reform. <\/p>\n

In 2024, President Vjosa Osmani was awarded the Richard Coudenhove-Kalergi European Prize by the Pan-European Foundation for her unwavering dedication to Euro-Atlantic values, democracy, and the rule of law. With this award, she continued the legacy of Kosovo\u2019s independence architect, Dr. Ibrahim Rugova, who received the same prestigious prize 20 years earlier. <\/p>\n

Also in 2024, President Vjosa Osmani was honored with the M100 Media Award by the M100 Sanssouci Colloquium for her unwavering commitment to Euro-Atlantic values and her tireless efforts to advance reforms, strengthen democracy, the pro-European course, fight corruption, equality and women\u2019s rights, becoming the first leader in the Balkans to receive this recognition.<\/p>\n

From 2006 to 2010, Vjosa Osmani served as Chief of Staff to President Fatmir Sejdiu and Senior Legal and International Affairs Adviser, representing the President in the Commission that drafted the Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo. She was also part of the team that represented Kosovo before the International Court of Justice in the historic case regarding Kosovo\u2019s declaration of independence. <\/p>\n

Since 2006, President Osmani has lectured at the Faculty of Law of the University of Prishtina and later joined the faculty of the American University in Kosovo (RIT). Furthermore, she has also lectured at the University of Pittsburgh in the United States as a visiting professor. In 2017, she was awarded the Sheth International Award by the University of Pittsburgh. Throughout her political career, she has also received a number of other recognitions. <\/p>\n

During her terms as a Member of Parliament, she also served as a member of the Board of the Parliamentary Network of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund, as well as a member of the Steering Committee of the World Bank and IMF Global Young MPs Initiative.<\/p>\n

Vjosa Osmani was born on May 17, 1982, in Mitrovica, where she completed her primary and secondary education. In addition to her native Albanian language, she speaks English and several other foreign languages. She is married to Prindon Sadriu and they have twin daughters, Anda Elisa Sadriu and Dua Tiara Sadriu.
