Pristina, 6 October 2010
Honorable business leaders from Kosovo, Bulgaria and other countries,
Honorable Minister Rexhepi,
Ladies and gentlemen,
It is an honor and a pleasure for me to hold this keynote speech before the International Business Forum, which has convened here in Pristina. This is a special opportunity to establish contacts, exchange ideas and see possibilities of cooperation between business communities. The current swift transformation and progress made in the Republic of Kosovo add to the importance of the meeting.
Kosovo has an enormous growth potential, including unutilized natural resources, growing enterprises and a young and dynamic labor force. I trust this meeting represents a critical chance to strengthen cooperation between our businesses and make use of, in particular, advantages in undertaking effective business initiatives.
I also want to express the readiness of institutions of Republic of Kosovo to help deepen cooperation between the Kosovo business community and business communities in other countries. The Government of Kosovo is supporting the development of the private sector, as a precondition to the development of small and medium enterprises and economic sustainability. Besides privatization process, capital investments have seen a continuous increase in Kosovo. Economic growth has increased, and Kosovo businesses are becoming more and more competitive in the region.
Following the stage of the recovery of our economy, ravaged before and after the war, the independence of Kosovo has provided favorable conditions for foreign capital investment. Mindful to the importance to these investments of factors like safety, political stability, appropriate legal and physical infrastructure, telecommunications and customs and tax facilities, we are taking all the measures to provide conditions for attracting numerous and various investors. Kosovo is a stable and safe country. By improving the physical and legal infrastructure, by providing a sustainable business environment and given the great riches, youth potential and cheap labor force, we expect a constant increase in foreign investment.
A favorable environment for investment has been created in recent years. Reforms were made in fiscal policies, which have resulted in a palpable dropdown in taxes and fees. Kosovo maintains the lowest taxes and fees in the region. In addition, efforts were made to simplify administrative and legal procedures for business activities. Moreover, as institutions, we remain strongly committed to ensuring and improving further the economic environment.
In conclusion, allow me to stress out that interstate cooperation between Republic of Kosovo and friend countries in the region and world has facilitated cooperation between our business communities. Heading towards European integration, Kosovo will provide conditions and ample room for cooperation, which is crucial to economic growth and overall welfare.
I wish the Forum success and fruitful proceedings that will provide new cooperation and investment opportunities.
