Remarks of President Jahjaga at the press conference, after the meeting with Mr. Philip Reeker

The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Madam Atifete Jahjaga received today the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State of the United States of America, Mr. Philip Reeker, with whom she discussed a range of topics of importance.

After the meeting, President Jahjaga and Deputy Assistant Secretary Reeker delivered their statements before the media.

Below we give the statement of President Jahjaga:

We had a very good meeting with Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Mr. Phil Reeker. I thanked him for the continuous assistance and support of the United States of America in all the processes in which Kosovo is going through. The messages that Mr. Reeker brings with him are of great importance as we’re wrapping up successfully the international supervision of Kosovo’s independence.

On behalf of Kosovo’s citizens I expressed our graditute and conveyed the feelings of strong friendship for the American people and the country. For Kosovo and its people the US support and assistance is essential. United States of America are our biggest friend and we share the ideals of your country.

We jointly concluded that Kosovo is a success story, an intertwining of the free will of its people and strong international involvement and support.

I assured Mr. Reeker that Kosovo’s institutions and its citizens stand ready and committed to meet all the obligations in building a democratic country, the rule of law, in combating organized crime and corruption, in securing the guaranteed rights of all the communities and in conducting all the necessary reforms so that Kosovo becomes a member of NATO and the European Union.

The Republic of Kosovo is a factor of peace and stability in the region and we conduct good neighborly relations with all the countries. We would like to develop such relations with the neighboring country of Serbia to normalize the relations and to resolve all the pending issues that are in the interest of countries and peoples. This has no alternative.

The Republic of Kosovo is implementing all the international obligations stemming from the agreements of the EU-facilitated dialogue in Brussels.

I assured Mr. Reeker that Kosovo’s institutions are committed to dialogue with all the citizens of Kosovo, in all the municipalities, including the three municipalities in the country’s north to find and offer solutions which are in accordance with the country’s Constitution so that they enjoy their rights and freedoms as well as the competences guaranteed by Ahtisaari’s Plan.

By taking upon ourselves all these tasks, we take responsibility for the future, for the economic development and other matters that would turn Kosovo into an attractive country for foreign investment, a place of prosperity, a place of equal chances and opportunities.

Mr. Reeker, thank you again for this visit in these historic moments for Kosovo and its citizens and for the help and strong support of the United States of America. The floor is yours.
