President Jahjaga received OIC Secretary-General, Mr. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoǧlu

President of the Republic of Kosovo, Mrs. Atifete Jahjaga, received today at a meeting, Secretary-General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Mr. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoǧlu, in Kosovo on an official visit. At this meeting, President Jahjaga awarded Mr. Ihsanoǧlu the medal of “Order of Peace, Democracy and Humanitarianism –Dr. Ibrahim Rugova”, for his contribution towards strengthening of the international subjectivity of the Republic of Kosovo.

Madam President highly praised the activities of Mr. Ihsanoglu for the affirmation of the state of Kosovo, the inclusion into the OIC Resolution the request for recognition of Kosovo by member states and support generation for Kosovo’s economic development.

President Jahjaga emphasized that Kosovo is a civic state where right and liberties of all its citizens are guaranteed by the Constitution and the laws in force. She also emphasized that Kosovo is a country which promotes good neighbourliness and peace and stability in the region, dedicated to its EU integrations.

Madam President discussed with Mr. Ihsanoglu issues related to the dialogue between Republic of Kosovo and republic of Serbia and achievement of the agreement for normalisation of relations between the two countries. President Jahjaga stated that this agreement will contribute towards the improvement of the lives of the citizens on both sides of the border and will help the integration of the Serbian community living in the northern parts of Kosovo into the Kosovar society and its institutions.

Mr. Ihsanoglu praised the progress achieved by Kosovo since the declaration of its independence and emphasized that Organisation of Islamic Cooperation will continue to support Kosovo on its further consolidation and its economic development. He also called the agreement reached between Kosovo and Serbia a positive agreement.
