The Republic of Kosovo has adopted the Declaration Against Arbitrary Detention in State-to-State Relations, an initiative of Canada, which aims to further protect the rights of citizens who live, work and travel outside of their native countries.
With the approval of this Declaration, Kosovo aligns itself with the states committed to human rights, the rule of law and order, as well as the independence of the judiciary. With this Declaration, Kosovo, like other states, has reaffirmed its concern about the use of arbitrary detention by states to exert influence on foreign governments, an action contrary to international law.
The approval of this declaration is an important step in fulfilling the commitments made by President Osmani, on behalf of the institutions of the Republic of Kosovo, at the Summit for Democracy, an initiative of the President of the United States of America Joe Biden.
