The President: The values of our war are untouchable

Peja, May 5, 2019 – The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, on the occasion of the 5th of May – Martyrs Day, paid homage at the Memorial Plaque for the Martyrs of Peja and at the statue of Shkelzen Haradinaj, and participated in the Memorial Academy in honor of the 183 martyrs of the Municipality of Peja.

President Thaçi said that as heads of the institutions of the Republic of Kosovo we are honoring and respecting this important and historic day for the nation, “Martyrs Day”.

“Even though 20 years have passed, more and more each day it is witnessed that the value of the Kosovo Liberation Army is an untouchable value, a value that unites citizens regardless of party, ideology or locality. It is the most sublime and sacred value of our nation, our state. It is a value that empowers our country more and more”, said President Thaçi.

The Head of State said to the families and children of the martyrs that they should feel proud of their family members and their parents, just as we feel of our comrades who gave everything for Kosovo to be free, to be independent and to move gradually towards membership into NATO and the European Union.

“I am convinced that our state is on the right path. There are difficulties, there are obstacles, but we are doing the best work possible. Therefore, there is one thing I know and I am sure that there will be only better days and progress for the state of Kosovo in all areas both in the country’s consolidation and its international affirmation”, he added.

President Thaçi has stressed that we must always remember with pride the struggle we have conducted and every time when respecting those values we will only be strengthened both as a society and as a state.

“We also recall today the genocide that the state of Serbia committed in Kosovo, killing 13,500 civilians, committing about 400 massacres throughout Kosovo, about 20,000 rapes against Albanian women, and anout which the international justice has not yet spoken its word and we are dealing with zero justice”, said President Thaçi

The Head of State has said that the recent engagement of the American Congress, of the great friend of our nation, Eliot Engel, is an extraordinary and historic contribution to the truth, to what happened in Kosovo.

“The words of Congressman Engel and all the participants were a great motivation for us all to continue to seek justice, to work harder for justice”, he stressed.

President Thaçi has said that he believes that the Kosovo Parliament in the near future will also issue the resolution on the genocide of Serbia in Kosovo, and all perpetrators of those crimes will face justice.
