The President on the 20th anniversary of the Izbica massacre: Serbia committed genocide and ethnic cleansing in KosovoPrishtina, March 28th 2019 – A Memorial Academy was held today under the patronage of the President of the Republic of Kosovo on the 20th anniversary of the Izbica Massacre.
At the 20th anniversary of the crimes of the Serbian police and the military in Izbica, President Thaçi remembered the 147 fallen from Izbica and the surroundings.
“We remember all martyrs and victims of the terror perpetrated by the state of Serbia in 1998 and 1999. We remember all those who were killed and massacred just because they were Albanians. Unarmed men, women, youth and children who were killed on their lands all over Kosovo,” said President Thaçi.
He also stated that Kosovo will never forget the tragedies in Likoshan, Çirez, Prekaz, Abri, Reçak, Celinë, Krushë, Rezallë, Qyshk, Poklek, Studime, Mejë and many other locations.
“The state of Serbia has committed genocide and ethnic cleansing in Kosovo. It expelled hundreds of thousands of Albanians outside of Kosovo. It burned and plundered the property of our citizens. The extent of the Serbian crimes upon the population of Kosovo shall never be forgotten,” said President Thaçi.
The head of state pointed out that Kosovo marks the twentieth anniversary of the liberation.
According to him, this day would not have ever dawned if it wasn’t for the just war of the Kosovo Liberation Army.
“It would have never dawned without the sacrifice and the blood of two thousand fallen and thousands of martyrs. The just war of our nation was supported by the states of the democratic world, by the United States of America, EU states and NATO. The independence and liberation of Kosovo has its foundations in the sacrifices of its fallen and its martyrs,” said the President.
At this Memorial Academy, President Thaçi pointe dour that we will preserve and nurture the relationships with the countries of the western world, led by the United States of America.
He potentiated that Kosovo is secure on its path of Euro-Atlantic integrations and will become a part of the EU, NATO and UN.
