The President met with the Governor of Tokyo, asks for twining with Prishtina

Tokyo, September 13th – The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, was received today by the Governor of Tokyo, Yuriko Koike.

President Thaçi initially thanked her for the support that herself, the members of parliament and the Japanese Government has provided for the people of Kosovo during the hardest war years.

“We are very appreciative of the fact that during and immediately after the war you personally have helped Kosovar refugees,” added the President.

Governor Koike reminded the present on how she organised the handover of the houses used by the Japanese population after the 1995 Kobe earthquake.

She also stated that she still remembers the war images and those of the Kosovar refugees.

President Thaçi pointed out that support in the most difficult days of the war is a strong foundation for a strategic cooperation between Kosovo and Japan.

“In the spirit of expansion and strengthening of these relations, it would be in common interest to twin our two capital cities. Tokyo’s experience would be determinative for the development of our capital city,” said the President.

President Thaçi also congratulated the Governor Yurike Koike, for the preparations for the organisation of the Olympic Games 2020, in which Kosovo will be represented by many athletes.

“I am convinced that Kosovo will win medals this time around too,” said the President.

Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike wished a lots of success to the Kosovar athletes, particularly to Kosovar judokas.
