The President: Hero Abaz Thaçi served the Kosovo Liberation Army with all his military knowledge

Prishtina, May 16th 2019 – The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, participated today at the Memorial Academy in honour of the hero Abaz Thaçi.

President Thaçi said that Thaçi comes from a patriotic family, from an area where Hasan Prishtina, Azem and Shote Galica, Shaban Polluzha and Mehmet Gradica also originate from.

“He originates from an area, a patriotic educational environment of the legendary commander Adem Jashari, and all those men who gave all with their knowledge and in combat for making of the state of Albania and for the continuation of the war for the liberation of Kosovo. Abaz’s family is a patriotic family who cultivated at all times the education for war of independence and liberation and due to the national and patriotic engagements, for the liberation of Kosovo, was often times punished and tortured by the Serbian police. His father, and other members of the family were persecuted, arrested and ill-treated. But under no conditions did they stop in their engagements for freedom, independence and liberation,” said President Thaçi.

The head of state also added that Abaz’s thirst for knowledge was immense.

“He chose a specific line of education, a military education, and very soon he managed to grasp not only the theoretical knowledge but also practicalities, and became an active and dynamic officer, distinguished among those who served in Croatia and Slovenia, on which I believe some of his colleagues, both school and war colleagues will talk about,” added President Thaçi.

When the wars broke out in former Yugoslavia, said the President, Abaz together with his friends helped and advised Albanian soldiers to leave the wars they had no reason to fight at all.

“After being demobilised from the Croatian army, Abaz went to live in Germany, but wherever he was, far from Drenica, the lands of former Yugoslavia or in the west, the longing for his motherland, for his beloved Drenica, for Kosovo, made him leave the west, the good life and join what he was born for and educated by his family, and professionally trained for, he joined the fight for the liberation of Kosovo. All the knowledge he had obtained, he gave in service of the Kosovo Liberation Army, of the war for freedom and independence and was the image of the unification of all those who fought against the Serbian army and Serbian police,” said the President.

The head of state pointed out that Abaz Thaçi was the key figure of the 138 Agim Ramadani brigade, linked to a number of successful actions.

“The breaking of the border between Kosovo and Albania, is directly linked with the life and activities of Abaz and his fellow brothers in arms,” said the President.

Hero Abaz Thaçi was killed on May 16th  in the battle with the Serbian army and police forces.
