President Thaçi: Using Kosovo as a trafficking route can be prevented via regional and European cooperation

Prishtina, October 19th 2020 - The President of the country, Hashim Thaçi, participated today at the conference organized in honour of the EU Day Against Human Trafficking, organized by the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

President Thaçi said that the EU Day Against Human Trafficking is an important event in Kosovo and beyond.


"On this day we appreciate the achievements but also the challenges that this painful phenomenon bequests to the whole world. ”Kosovo is a country of origin, but also of transit of trafficked human beings", said President Thaçi.


The head of state stressed that Kosovo as a new state has managed to create a legal infrastructure that helps fight trafficking and rehabilitate victims. “We must work every day to ensure the well-being of our citizens so that there is no space and opportunity for the development of this negative and very dangerous phenomenon for our society, and we must cooperate with all our neighbours and with the EU in order to prevent the use of Kosovo as a route for traffickers ", added President Thaçi.


The Head of State said that Kosovo is grateful to the European Union for the support provided to Kosovo institutions in preventing and combating trafficking.


"This cooperation is essential because we can only fight trafficking together.”Kosovo has sought rapprochement with international organizations to give its contribution to the fight against trafficking in human beings," said the President.


President Thaçi also stressed that we must remain committed to the provision of protection to our citizens by legal infrastructure and by all appropriate state mechanisms, as well as to contribute to prevention of this phenomenon at European level.


He called upon all responsible institutions, in accordance with the constitutional and legal obligations, to take charge and to, without any compromise fight all negative phenomena in our society.
