President Thaçi met with the heads of security institutions, gets informed on Election Day security measures

Prishtina, October 5th – President of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, met today with the heads of security and justice institutions, Police Director Rashit Qalaj, Chief State Prosecutor Aleksandër Lumezi and AKI Director Shpend Maxhuni, with whom he discussed the security situation on the eve of the general elections in Kosovo.

President Thaçi stated that Kosovo has built a good tradition of free and democratic elections and praised the current process and good and without any incidents which would violate the electoral process.

“I am convinced that the forthcoming elections will also be free and democratic,” said President Thaçi, and added that “these elections shall also fulfil the highest standards.”

Director Qalaj informed President Thaçi that Kosovo Police is in full readiness and is fully coordinated with the rest of the institutions in order to guarantee complete security on the Election Day, with particular emphasis on polling stations.

Chief Prosecutor Lumezi informed the president that there will be prosecutors on duty at all regional centres all around Kosovo, in coordination with all institutions in order to act immediately if need arises.

AKI Director Maxhuni stated that the Agency continues to monitor the situation and evaluate the security threats

Heads of security and justice institutions stated that they have established a joint Coordination Centre in order to expedite the exchange of information and to coordinate the activities in real time.

President Thaçi thanked Director Qalaj, Chief Prosecutor Lumezi and Director Maxhuni for their professional work and called for additional care on the election day itself and the few days after the elections.
