President Thaçi: Kosovo Police is the best in the region

Prishtina, September 6th 2018 – President of the country, Hashim Thaçi, attended today the 19 Anniversary of the Kosovo Police.

President Thaçi said that we are marking the day of the institution which incarnates in itself the progress of our new state.

“Kosovo Police, from the very first days, and especially after the independence of Kosovo, became our strongest state building pillar. Kosovo Police, women and men, quickly became the most trusted institution in Kosovo. I say it with great pride every time that many international reports place Kosovo Police high above the other police forces of the region. This institution has given a lot to Kosovo. It has given it reason to be proud. It has given it the cadre which have gone to lead the most important institutions of the country. You have given to Kosovo heroes as is Enver Zymberi and many others.  We bow to their sacrifice and engagement for eternity”, said President Thaçi.

The head of state also added that Kosovo Police has the most sacred task of all, protection of human life, and creation of a safe environment for all and fighting of negative phenomena which occur in our country and our region.

“Of course, lots of progress has been achieved. But, we must do more to eradicate these negative phenomena, in full coordination with other institutions. We all, must do more to, all the policemen incriminated in corruptive and criminal activities are never given the opportunity to put on this sacred uniform again. And particularly, we must do more within families, for the protection of the life of women. It is true, there is domestic and public violence against women, and unfortunately, women are subjected to verbal and physical violence. But what makes the difference is the way the institutions reacts to it, the way society reacts to it”, said President Thaçi.

The head of state said that our girls cannot grow up in an environment where the violence against them, verbal or physical. Becomes a norm.

“Anywhere violence is encountered, in the street, at home, at the workplace, anywhere indeed, we must be uncompromising in fighting of this ugly phenomenon. Negligence in acting on such occasions will be unforgivable and punishable”, said the President.

He also said that Kosovo Police must be at the helm of this process, thus providing an example to all the others.
