President Thaçi, in New York, met with King Abdullah II of Jordan

New York, September 19, 2017 – The President of the Republic of Kosovo, as the Head of the delegation of Kosovo, met today with King Abdullah II of Jordan, in the framework of the next session of the General Assembly of the United Nations.

The Head of State, accompanied by the First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Behgjet Pacolli, expressed the gratitude of the country of Kosovo towards Jordan for the continuous support on Kosovo’s integration into the international community and for the excellent bilateral relations.

“Kosovo is interested to increase the economic cooperation and trade exchanges with Jordan. For this, we propose the organization of an annual economic forum, which would be a good opportunity for the businesses of the two countries to start contacts and to strengthen this cooperation”, said President Thaçi during the meeting.

President Thaçi stressed that Jordan’s support for Kosovo’s membership into international organizations is very important.

The Head of State said that the initiation of the signing of the agreement on investment protection and the avoidance of double taxation between our two countries are two important agreements that will strengthen the economic legal base between the two countries.

At the meeting there was also discussed about the cooperation in combating terrorism, the strengthening of the cooperation at the level of intelligence agencies and between security forces to exchange experiences and information in the fight against terrorism.

It was further said that Kosovo and Jordan are two great examples of religious harmony and the promotion of interfaith dialogue.

President Thaçi met today also with the President of the European Council, Donald Tusk.
