President Thaçi holds a phone call conversation with President Michel, Zagreb Summit a message to the western Balkans

Prishtina, May 6th 2020 – President of the Republic of Kosovo Hashim Thaçi held a phone call today with the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, as part of the preparations for the Zagreb Summit which will be held this afternoon, organised by Croatia, as the current holder of the EU presidency.

President Thaçi and President Michel agreed that EU must continue the engagement for the integration perspective of the western Balkans in the European family and that holding of the Zagreb Summit is in itself a positive message in this direction.

President Thaçi asked that EU member states reach a decision on visa liberalisation as soon as possible.

Both leaders agreed that despite the circumstances brought forward by the COVID 19 virus, engagements in strengthening of democracy in Kosovo and in guaranteeing of the work of the independent institutions is vital.

Also, both parties pointed out the importance of regional cooperation and EU coordination with its member states and other actors who play a role in the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia.
