Prishtina, May 6th 2020 – President of the Republic of Kosovo Hashim Thaçi participated at the EU Western Balkans Summit, on the subject of the European perspective of the region and the challenges caused by the Covid 19 pandemic.
President Thaçi in his online address to this summit reiterated the urgent need that EU reaches the decision on visa liberalisation for Kosovo.
The head of state pointed out that Kosovo has fulfilled all the criteria for the candidate country status for EU membership.
“20 years ago at the Zagreb Summit the European perspective was offered to Kosovo and the Balkans. It is painful that today we hear the same dedication, but with no visa liberalisation and moreover, without a candidate status for EU membership, despite the fact that we have fulfilled all the criteria,” said President Thaçi.
The head of state called upon the EU and its member states to show leadership and will to bring Kosovo closer to EU.
“EU and its member states have the power to change this negative trend. We call upon EU and its member states to show leadership and will to bring Kosovo closer to EU,” said President Thaçi.
