The President of the Republic of Kosovo Vjosa Osmani received at a meeting Mr. Giles Portman, Director for Europe at the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, who congratulated her on her new post.
He pointed out that the latest political developments in the country represent a turning point for new developments.
President Osmani expressed her gratitude for the United Kingdom's historic support to Kosovo during the war period, including its engagement as part of NATO and its continued support since the declaration of independence. In this regard, she said, the United Kingdom remains one of the most strategic partners and allies of our country.
Further on President Osmani stressed that the country's institutions are ready to engage in the opening of new chapters of cooperation with the United Kingdom and in strengthening the existing ones, emphasizing the areas of rule of law, defence, security, commercial exchange, education and the joint commitment to advancing of the green agenda. President Osmani expressed readiness for cooperation in this direction, while Portman reiterated that the United Kingdom is an utter supporter of the future of the Republic of Kosovo in NATO, which will contribute to the stability and security in the region and beyond. He expressed the support of the United Kingdom in strengthening of the international subjectivity of the Republic of Kosovo.
President Osmani expressed particular gratitude for the assistance and commitment of the United Kingdom to the clarification of the fate of those who went forcibly missing in the recent war in Kosovo, saying that clarifying their fate and delivering justice are prerequisites for lasting peace and success in the dialogue process.
Both sides agreed on close cooperation in the implementation of joint projects which will help advance bilateral relations.
