President Osmani met with the regional ambassador of the UN Conference on Climate Change for Europe, Mr. David Moran

The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani- Sadriu, today received in a meeting Mr. David Moran, Regional Ambassador of the United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP26), for Europe, with whom she discussed about the developments in the country, but also about global ones regarding to climate change.

She congratulated Mr. Moran and the United Kingdom for the organization of the UN Climate Change Conference (COP26) in Glasgow, which returned the world’s attention to the issue of climate change at a time of successive global challenges.

On this occasion, President Osmani stressed that it is unfortunate that Kosovo is not part of these discussions, since according to her: “Climate change knows no borders”.

President Osmani stressed Kosovo’s needs for support towards a successful transition from fossil energy sources to renewable energy sources

The inclusion and facilitation of Kosovo’s access to financing funds and mechanisms, according to President Osmani, would enable the adaptation and mitigation of the effects of climate change. 

“Cooperation is a precondition for addressing the challenges of climate emergency. It is necessary to act now in order to guarantee a better future for the generations to come”, stressed President Osmani, while talking about the importance of accelerating the energy transition.

At the meeting with Mr. Moran, President Osmani mentioned the steps undertaken in this context by the Kosovo institutions, including the National Council for Climate Change and the legislative framework

Whereas, Ambassador Moran informed the President on the developments after the UN Conference on Climate Change (COP26) and praised the commitment of Kosovo to actively engage in advancing the agenda for combating climate change.
