President Osmani met with the Prime Minister of Lithuania Ingrida Šimonytė

The President of the Republic of Kosovo Vjosa Osmani, during her visit to Lithuania, was received today by the Prime Minister of Lithuania, Ingrida Šimonytė. Both interlocutors praised the interstate relations and confirmed the commitment to further expand them, particularly in the fields of security, defense, economy, information technology and other areas of mutual interest.

President Osmani stressed that strengthening cooperation with allies remains a key priority of Kosovo’s foreign policy.

“Kosovo is grateful for the support of Lithuania over the years, and now the support for Kosovo’s membership in the Council of Europe is crucial, as is for our aspirations towards EU and NATO integration. “At a decisive time for the future of our continent, we agreed with the Prime Minister to intensify mutual cooperation in foreign and security policy,” said President Osmani.

A topic of the meeting between President Osmani and Prime Minister Šimonytė  Russia’s aggression against Ukraine was also a topic of discussion at the meeting between President Osmani and Prime Minister Šimonytė. In this context, President Osmani emphasized Kosovo’s support for the Ukrainian people.

“Kosovo’s position on Ukraine is fully in line with the US, the EU and all democratic countries. “Kosovo has approved sanctions against Russia and is offering all possible support to the people of Ukraine,” said President Osmani. She also mentioned Russia’s tendencies to destabilize the Balkans through its proxy, Serbia.

President Osmani asked Prime Minister Šimonytė for support in the process of Kosovo’s membership in international organizations, in particular in the Council of Europe, as well as support in convincing skeptical states to advance the visa liberalization process for the citizens of Kosovo, which has been consistently supported by Lithuania.
