President Osmani met the ambassadors of Germany, Italy and Slovenia concerning visa liberalization and membership in the Council of Europe

The President of the Republic of Kosovo Vjosa Osmani continued meetings with ambassadors of various EU countries, accredited to Kosovo. Today, she also met with the ambassador of Germany, Italy and Slovenia to Kosovo. With them, President Osmani discussed interstate relations, in particular the support from these countries regarding the process of visa liberalization and membership in the Council of Europe.

With the ambassadors of these countries Madam President specifically discussed the political developments that took place after the October 13th meeting of the technical working group for visas of the European Council, for the liberalization of visas for the citizens of Kosovo.

President Osmani thanked the amicable countries of Germany, Italy and Slovenia, for the continuous support they have provided to Kosovo in various processes. According to President Osmani, it is very important that this support continues even now when Kosovo is awaiting the conclusion of the very important process of creating opportunities for the free movement of our citizens, a process that directly affects their lives.

President Osmani reiterated that the EU member states should take into account the recommendation of the European Commission, which has already confirmed that it supports the recommendation made for the lifting of visas for Kosovo since our country has met all the criteria.

“It is as important,” stressed President Osmani, “that additional criteria for the liberalization of visas for the citizens of Kosovo are not to be allowed in any manner, because this would affect the denial of a right to our citizens and would damage the EU credibility”.

The President expressed her belief that the technical requirements, related to ETIAS, do not affect the political decision-making and the setting of the day of entry into force of the decision on the liberalization of visas for the citizens of Kosovo.

President Osmani also asked for additional support by these countries for the process of Kosovo's membership in the Council of Europe. According to the President, membership in this organization is very important for the citizens of the country, because it gives them the opportunity to protect and promote human rights and freedoms and helps the country to further advance human rights.
