President Osmani at the NATO Parliamentary Assembly Seminar: Kosovo in NATO, state priority, a prerequisite for peace and stability in the region

The President of the Republic of Kosovo Vjosa Osmani participated in at the opening of the 102nd NATO Parliamentary Assembly of the Rose-Roth Seminar which is taking place in Pristina on the topic of “Euro-Atlantic integration of the Western Balkans: protracted challenges, new realities and future perspectives”.

In front of deputies from NATO members and partner states, representatives of Kosovo's institutions, as well as various international organizations and institutions, President Osmani emphasized that Kosovo's institutions are committed to strengthening the rule of law and integration in the EU and in the North Atlantic structures.

President Osmani said that membership in the European Union and NATO will contribute to increased security and stability in the region. NATO membership, according to President Osmani, is Kosovo's state priority, as well as a prerequisite for ensuring peace in the region, and for the promotion and protection of common values. According to her, this step should be preceded by the inclusion of Kosovo in the Partnership for Peace.

In relation to the dangers posed to the security architecture in Europe as a result of the war in Ukraine and the implications of these developments in the Western Balkans, President Osmani stated that the Euro-Atlantic integration of the Western Balkans is a European strategic interest for international peace and security. According to her, most of the countries in the region, except Serbia, are committed to common Euro-Atlantic democratic values and collective security.

Asking for support for Kosovo's membership in the Partnership for Peace from the deputies from NATO members and partner states, President Osmani pointed out that Kosovo has an absolutely clear goal to be a member of NATO, while the paradox is that Serbia has been a member of the PFP for 15 years but refuses to join the largest military alliance in the world and at the same time maintains strong relations with Russia.

At the opening of this seminar, President Osmani spoke to participants from NATO members and other partner states about a number of issues of importance in Europe and the region related to cooperation with NATO, cyber-attacks, sponsored disinformation campaigns from Russia, energy issues and many other topics from the field of security and international cooperation.

The 102nd Rose-Roth Seminar is organized in cooperation with the Assembly of Kosovo, as well as with the support of the Swiss Government and the Geneva Center for Security Sector Governance (DCAF).
