President Osmani and Minister Gërvalla met with the President of Finland Mr. Sauli Niinisto

At the margins of the UN General Assembly, the President of Kosovo Dr. Vjosa Osmani and the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora Donika Gërvalla met with the President of Finland Mr. Sauli Niinisto.

President Osmani and Minister Gërvalla thanked President Niinisto for Finland's unreserved engagement to the recognition and strengthening of Kosovo's international subjectivity and briefed him on the efforts our country is undertaking in order to meet all obligations and standards required for the advancement of the Euro-Atlantic agenda.

“Swift integration of Kosovo and of the rest of the countries of the region into the EU and NATO is a precondition for maintaining stability in the region, which, unfortunately, is increasingly threatened by the actions of the Serbian regime which continues with the 1990's mentality”.

According to President Osmani, Finland as a country that clearly recognizes the continuing threat to the freedom of sovereign countries, as it has long faced the Russian threat, similar to the Serbian one faced by the Balkan region, could influence EU member states to accelerate Kosovo's and regions European agenda.

President Osmani informed the President of Finland that Kosovo has always been a constructive party in the dialogue with Serbia, despite the fact that Serbia has never apologized for the crimes committed and still holds hostage close to 2000 forcibly missing people during the recent war in Kosovo.

The President of Finland Niinisto said that the Finnish people understand the challenges that Kosovo has gone through and have a positive assessment of our country's efforts to increase the number of recognitions and membership in international organizations, as well as the reforms that are being undertaken to increase the well-being of the citizens of Kosovo.
