President Jahjaga’s speech at the inauguration ceremony of the Stone of Peace

I have the honour to, on behalf of the citizens of the Republic of Kosovo, accept this gift and thank you for the bringing of the “Stone of Peace” to Prishtina, as a sign of an honest friendship between our two nations and countries.

Honourable,

I have the honour to, on behalf of the citizens of the Republic of Kosovo, accept this gift and thank you for the bringing of the “Stone of Peace” to Prishtina, as a sign of an honest friendship between our two nations and countries.

This stone from the streets of Hiroshima, which is being placed here, symbolises the desire for peace of the citizens of my country. This stone carries the symbolic desire wars never to occur and for peace to reign among people.

Prishtina joins today other world cities which are proprietors of this symbol of peace.

There is no better symbolism than this for the commencement of the “Week of tolerance and reconciliation”.

Peace is always accompanied by tolerance, understanding and solidarity among people.

The citizens and the institutions of the Republic of Kosovo are dedicated towards building of a better future, for a life full of dignity, a life in freedom and equality for all people, regardless.

Citizens of Kosovo know exceptionally well how dear and valuable the freedom is, how meaningful is freedom and how painful but at the same time how utterly necessary is the reconciliation; because, even today, 14 years after the liberation, the fate of the missing individuals, as well as the victims and the grave consequences caused by the war still remain our as yet unhealed wounds.

Kosovo is a multi-ethnic, multi-faith, multi-cultural state. Tolerance, understanding and cohabitation among all our citizens, regardless of the each ones differences, are values of which we are proud, and upon basis of which we have built our state.

These are values which we bring along, as Europe’s youngest state, a factor of peace and stability in the region and beyond.

On this day, we remember and pay our respects to the victims of all conflicts worldwide.

They remind us on how brittle the peace is and how easy it is to endanger the human life.

Conflicts do not endanger only human life, they also destroy societies, they destruct the foundations of a state and they also thwart not only the present, but also the future of many generations.

By placing the “Stone of Peace” on its rightful place in the capital of the Republic of Kosovo, we symbolically join and become one with all the people of good will, with freedom loving nations, beyond racial, religious, linguistic and cultural differences.
