President Jahjaga received the special representative of the UN Secretary General in Kosovo, Farid Zarif

The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Madam Atifete Jahjaga received today the Special Representative of the Secretary General of the UN in Kosovo, Mr. Farid Zarif.

Mr. Zarif, with whose request the meeting took place, was interested to know the position of President Jahjaga on the announced elections of the Republic of Serbia in the territory of Kosovo. He said that the UNMIK mission will soon give an answer on the stand on the elections of the Republic of Serbia, after having heard the parties on this issue.

The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Mrs. Atifete Jahjaga, expressed her concern for the intention of the Republic of Serbia to hold elections in the territory of Kosovo, which violate the sovereignty of the state of Kosovo, challenges the territorial integrity and destabilized the country.
President Jahjaga said that Kosovo can not allow any neighboring country, or its representatives to lead illegal parallel structures within the territory of Kosovo, to organize whatever elections anywhere in the Republic of Kosovo.

She said that every effort of the Republic of Serbia to organize whatever elections marks a violation of the international laws and norms and the European core principles.

President Jahjaga requested from the UNMIK chief to forward the concerns to the UN Secretary General, Ban Ki Moon and his interlocutors in the Republic of Serbia.

She also required from Mr. Zarif that UNMIK does not become a party in the organization of these elections, since they represent a dangerous example that does not contribute to the normalization of relations between the Republic of Kosovo and the Republic of Serbia and to the peace and stability in the region.
